What College Football Coaches Need in a Recruiting Profile

Imagine a coach opens your profile between meetings.

There may be only a few minutes to answer the first questions: Who is this athlete? What position do they play? What does the film show? Are they in the right class? Are the academics workable? Who can confirm the information?

A useful recruiting profile answers those questions without making the coach hunt.

It is not a trophy case. It is an evaluation tool.

What to do next

Compare the checklist below with the profile you use today. Public readers can review RepMax athlete plans; signed-in athletes can update the real player card directly.

The essential football recruiting profile checklist

Every profile should include:

full name and current headshot;
graduation year;
high school, city and state;
primary and secondary positions;
jersey number;
accurate height and weight;
current highlight film;
selected full-game film when available;
varsity statistics with season clearly labeled;
GPA and relevant academic information;
athlete email and phone number;
parent or guardian contact information where appropriate;
high school head coach's name, email and phone number;
upcoming schedule;
accurate testing results or measurables;
relevant honors, leadership and activities.

If a fact is outdated or uncertain, update it or label it honestly. Trust is more valuable than an extra inch or an inflated time.

Put film where coaches can find it immediately

Film should be one of the most visible elements on the profile.

Use a working link that opens cleanly on a phone. Label each video by season and type, such as:

2026 Junior Varsity Highlights;
2026 Midseason Varsity Highlights;
2026 Full Game vs. Central High;
2026 Quarterback Skills Session.

Do not make the coach guess which video is newest. Remove broken links and old clips that no longer represent the athlete.

Make measurables credible

Football profiles commonly include height, weight, speed, strength and position-specific testing. The problem is not including numbers. The problem is presenting every number as equally reliable.

Enter accurate measurements in RepMax and retain the testing source and date in your records. Useful record details include:

school-measured height and weight;
combine result and event name;
electronic or hand-timed sprint;
coach-recorded lift;
self-reported offseason result.

That context helps coaches interpret the number. It also tells them the athlete understands that credibility matters.

Include academics early

Do not treat GPA as something to add after a coach asks.

Academic information helps a staff consider admissions and eligibility. Include the current GPA and, where useful, the grading scale, expected graduation date and intended major or academic interests.

Remember that the NCAA core-course GPA may differ from the high school's overall GPA. Do not label one as the other.

Give coaches someone who can verify the athlete

The high school coach's contact information matters. College coaches may want context about competition level, position, development, character and film.

Ask the high school coach before publishing personal contact details. Confirm the email and phone number each season.

Show the whole student-athlete—briefly

Character matters, but the profile does not need a long autobiography.

Use a short statement that communicates work habits, academic interests, team contribution and college goals. Then support it with specific evidence:

team captain or leadership role;
community service;
multi-sport participation;
employment or family responsibility;
academic honor;
coachable response to a position change or setback.

Specific examples are stronger than calling yourself hardworking, humble or a leader.

What to leave out

Remove anything that slows evaluation or weakens trust:

unverified claims presented as facts;
outdated film with no labels;
long inspirational introductions before the plays;
every youth-sports award;
copied motivational language;
private family information unrelated to recruiting;
negative comments about teammates, coaches or programs;
guarantees about future performance.

Annotated profile example

Suppose a coach opens Taylor's profile after receiving an introductory email. The name, graduation year and position establish identity. Current film provides the first evaluation. GPA and intended major add academic context. The high school coach's details give the college staff a verification contact. A 40-yard dash result can be paired with a source and date in the athlete's records.

No single field wins the evaluation. Together, the fields reduce unanswered questions and make the next conversation easier.

Update the profile when something meaningful changes

Review the profile after:

a new season or major film update;
a semester grade report;
updated testing results;
a position or jersey-number change;
a schedule change;
a new honor or leadership role;
a change to athlete or coach contact information.

Set a recurring monthly check during active recruiting. A profile shared repeatedly should not contain last season's weight, a dead video link or an old email address.

Make the profile easy to share

The same profile link should work in coach emails, social bios, direct messages and a recruiting QR code. This reduces the chance that one platform has current film while another has old academics.

The RepMax Player Profile is designed around that principle: one current destination for film, measurables, academics and contact details.

Your profile cannot play the snaps or write the emails for you. But it can make the work you have already done easier for the right coach to evaluate.
