How to Use Social Media for Football Recruiting

Your social account does not need to look like a sports media company.

It needs to help a coach answer a simpler question: is this athlete active, improving, reachable and presenting themselves responsibly?

Social media can support football recruiting when it points coaches toward useful evidence. It becomes a distraction when athletes chase attention instead of building a clear record of film, academics, development and communication.

The role of social media in recruiting

Use social platforms to:

make current film easy to find;
share season and camp schedules;
document credible athletic and academic updates;
show consistent work and team contribution;
learn about college programs;
communicate professionally where appropriate;
direct coaches to one complete recruiting profile.

Social media does not replace direct outreach. Posting a highlight and hoping the right coach discovers it is not a complete recruiting strategy.

Build a recruiting-ready bio

Include the information a coach needs to identify you:

graduation year;
primary position;
high school and state;
height and weight if current and accurate;
GPA where appropriate;
high school coach or team account;
one link to the complete recruiting profile.

What football recruits should post

Current film

Share a short clip or current highlight release with graduation year, position, school and the complete film link. Identify yourself clearly in the video.

Athletic development

Post useful updates from position work, strength training or documented testing. Add context: what skill is being developed, when the result was recorded and where the testing occurred.

Academic progress

Share meaningful academic milestones without exposing private documents or student information. Examples include honor roll, an improved GPA or acceptance into an academic program.

Team and schedule information

Post the upcoming game schedule, opponent, location and time. After the game, share a concise team-first update and relevant film when available.

Character and contribution

Leadership, community involvement, multi-sport participation and support for teammates can help coaches understand the person behind the film. Be specific and natural.

Use accurate information and genuine language. Do not copy an example that does not fit your situation.

How to mention or message coaches

Follow the program and relevant staff accounts. Learn before asking.

When sharing an update with a coach:

use the coach's correct name and account;
state graduation year, position and school;
include one relevant update;
provide the complete profile or film link;
remain concise;
move substantive communication to email when appropriate.

Do not tag dozens of unrelated coaches in the same post. It signals that the message is not really for anyone.

Social media mistakes that can hurt clarity or trust

False or inflated measurements.
Old film presented as current.
Public complaints about playing time, coaches or teammates.
Arguments, threats, discriminatory language or harassment.
Sharing private messages without permission.
Buying followers or engagement.
Presenting generic camp invitations as personal recruiting interest.
Posting an offer that has not been clearly made.
Allowing a parent to impersonate the athlete.

Athletes do not need to appear perfect. They do need to show judgment.
